PassPilot is a revolutionary new startup that helps young people find a driving instructor based on their criteria and get in touch.
PassPilot was a personal project for the directors at Falcon. We saw a need to help young students to find credible and reliable driving instructors online. We wanted to create a brand, site and app that would enable students and driving instructors to meet and book lessons.
The style needed to be clean and appealing to a wide age range, whilst also remaining professional and trustworthy. The overall aim was to become a sort of TripAdvisor for the learning to drive market.
An Engaging Brand
The PassPilot brand was an integral part of the work that we produced. It set the style to follow for the website and app. We wanted to create something that was familiar to the industry and something that related to learning to drive. We felt the ‘P’ was a nice nod to the ‘Passed’ plates that you often see on new driver cars.
Whenever a student or instructor visits the site, the brand is instantly relatable and communicates with them that we are part of the learning to drive market.
Visualising the Website
We began by designing the user profiles and deciphering what information students and instructors would want to see. We endeavoured to make the profile clean and exciting to a student adding subtle colours and gradients where possible to portray a fun and intuitive feel.
Creating A Comprehensive Experience
We wanted the PassPilot site to be a joy to use, and transition seamlessly from page to page. We focussed on the user flow and making it ever so simple to find the right driving instructor. Straight off the bat you can enter your location or have your location automatically determined. The site will then display a beautiful list of instructors in your local area, along with a star based rating and short bio. You can then filter down the list based on Transmission, Reviews, Gender and Price.
After choosing your perfect instructor, you can then request a call back by filling out a few basic details and then your instructor will contact you shortly.
The second stage of the PassPilot launch is to create a mobile app where students can book and pay for lessons and track their progress. Following the design style from the website, we crafted a simple and effective user experience.
We really nailed the user flow to ensure that everything is easily reachable with just a tap. This helps keep the user engaged in the app and encourages them to use the app again.
A Joy To Use
The PassPilot Pro app was designed to be a fun app to use that keeps students engaged and using the app again and again. We wanted to make it extremely easy to rate your lesson and review your instructor. Instead of a star based function, you simple tap the circle with the icon relating to the skill to make it bigger, the bigger you make it, the better you feel you did.
When booking lessons you choose a date that your instructor is available and simply pay via card, PayPal or Apple Pay.
To onboard driving instructors we sent out a series of MailChimp campaigns encouraging them to sign up to the PassPilot site. Within the email it gave a clear impression of the benefits of the PassPilot site, and what their profile could look like.
